Country Road

My Dad and brother went deer hunting on a beautiful piece of property one day earlier this year.  As we waited for them in our van, I decided to get out and take some photos (it was completely safe, too).  It was 7PM, and the trees shaded the road from the evening sun.

I tried some angles, varying from way down low to holding the camera high above my head.  The tire tracks from our van and past vehicles made deep, swirly imprints on the sand, and this turned out to be my best low-angled shot of the evening.

I edited this photo using Lomo on Picmonkey.  I didn't want it to turn out too 'photoshopped', so I faded it out a bit.  The lighting was simply gorgeous, and I kind of hated to leave after the hunters arrived. :)

Little Boy Blue

My little brother loves to pose for my camera whenever I point it at him...which can be an adorable pain when I want a candid shot.  He also likes to pull chairs around with him wherever he goes, wanting to see what we older ones are doing.

So, on a chillier day, we were outside, and he climbed into the patio chair.  He didn't see the camera, and was making a face that looked like he was sighing.  I thought it was so sweet (and a bit sad), and I like the way he just stares off into nothingness.

Sepia Doorknob

We touch them at least once every day, and I usually think nothing of them.  But, on a hunt for photographing something a tad mundane, I decided to pay attention to doorknobs.

For this photo, I turned it to black and white, then added a sepia coloring to it.  The knob and door were slightly the same color brown, so I think it added more color in a way.  The light came from my window, as you can see from the reflection on the doorknob.

I know that a doorknob couldn't possibly be the most mundane thing in the world, so I'd like to hear about your most-boring-item-turned-interesting photo.  Tell me about it in the comments section!

Colorful Skies

The sky is so beautiful, it's crazy how I ignore it some days.  It's just there all the time.

The photo above was taken after a light storm.  The rays were shining through the clouds.  It was so beautiful.

A lot of my sky photos are taken mostly around sunset-time, and others are when I mowing our huge lawn.  I get a 360-degree view of the sky when riding a lawn mower, so I like to run into the house to get my camera, take a few composed shots, then rush back to continue mowing.

Since there aren't any trees for a half-mile around our house, I get a clear view of the sunset every evening.  The oranges and grays are especially pretty.

Candle Flame

Since Fall is coming around slowly but surely, Fall-ish candles have been lit frequently.  It's such a comfy feeling when Fall starts.

The pretty colors and darkness prompted me to take these photos.  I like the reflection of the flame against the shiny, melted wax.

Positioned Sunflower

It was a windy-ish day when my friend came over, and she was so excited when she found out we had sunflowers down the road.  "I haven't taken a photo of a sunflower all Summer!"  She told me.

Funny.  Neither had I.

So, we walked down the road.  She had her Canon and a Samsung phone, and I had my Nikon.  That's the good thing about great friends...they don't care about who might have the best thing.  Frankly, I don't even care about the Canon/Nikon debate.

She started taking photos with her camera, then switched to her phone.  "It takes really good photos."

But it was windy, so the flower we had chosen as our subject kept swaying back and forth.  My friend held it by the stem, asking me, "Is my hand in the way?"  Shooting a photo of her inadvertently posed hand, I replied, "Oh, no.  It looks fine."

So, I suppose she doesn't even know I took a photo of her hand steadying a sunflower.  And it actually looks pretty good.

Flowers, Great and Small

Photos with something in common.

It's like taking a subject, and adding more to it.  More photos equal more opportunity for variety and creativity.

A series brings things together.  Usually, I post one photo, and I'm done for the blogging day.  But I've decided to make Tuesday my "Series" day.  I'll post a bunch of photos that, if not for the color or (in this case) the subject or some other little thing, would probably have next to nothing in common.

It's not hard to find subjects for a series of photos, so there's nothing to lose...and fresh ideas to gain.  I'm very much into flower photography (even though I'm definitely not a pro on it), and love going on short bike rides looking for pretty blooms.  I thought that flowers would be a great way to start this new series idea.

What series should I photograph next?  Comment below and tell me what you think!

Tiny Vased Flowers

I was over at a friend's house, and she had a vase surrounded by colored sharpies.  The color is a bit attention-grabbing, but made for a nice background.  The white flowers were not very big at all, so I had to get really close for my camera to actually focus on them.
